Anthony Geary, a towering television icon, has passed away. He was 76. He was best known for his performance as Luke Spencer on General Hospital.
In the soap opera, he achieved a significant feat that seems hard to replicate today. His on-screen romance with Genie Francis, who played Laura Webber, was so popular that when their wedding episode aired in 1981, it broke all records.
A total of 30 million viewers tuned in, making the episode the highest-rated in the soap category. Back to his tragic death, the late actor’s husband, Claudio Gama, confirmed his passing. He tells TV Insider, “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”
Anthony’s death occurred from a complication in a medical procedure. His family, meanwhile, did not specify what kind of surgery he was having.
