Tiffany Haddish reunites with her social worker: ‘You saved my life’

Tiffany Haddish has reunited with her social worker, Coleta Lewis, during her recent stand-up comedy show.

In a touching Instagram video on the official account of the 46-year-old American comedian and actress, she can be seen swept away by emotions after her social worker Lewis surprised her in the audience at her recent stand-up show.

Under the clip of her touching reunion, Haddish wrote a caption that read, “Holiday Reunion with my social worker. Thank you, Coleta, for everything.”

The show captured a moment when The LEGO Movie 2 star was onstage and looking out in the audience when Lewis was heard saying, “I don’t know if you remember me, my name is Coleta Lewis.”

Recognising him in a split second, Haddish said, “Coleta Lewis! My social worker!” and she shouted, “Turn the lights on,” and left the stage to give Lewis a hug.

After hugging him, The Card Counter actress was deeply moved and went on to tearfully acknowledge by quipping, “You saved my life. I’m where I’m at now because of you. Because you encouraged me, you were one of the first people to believe in me. Thank you. I love you.”

She then told the rest of the audience that Lewis stood by her throughout her substance abuse issues, guiding her with some much-needed direction in life.

Haddish shared, “Coleta was my second social worker and [in school] … I used to get in trouble y’all, talking too much and s****, and she was like, ‘You got two choices this summer, you can go to the Laugh Factory Comedy camp or psychiatric therapy….”

“And I was winning all those drama festivals and I said, ‘Which one got drugs?’ And you said, ‘You won’t be on drugs, you’re going to therapy.’ So, I went to the comedy camp… that changed my whole life,” she recalled.
