What happened between Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross

Mel Gibson, Rosalind Ross call it quits due to one reason: ‘It’s an obsession’

It is being reported that Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross parted ways mainly due to his forthcoming The Resurrection of the Christ.

A well-placed insider told Radar Online that the 69-year-old actor and filmmaker shifted his complete focus to the upcoming epic biblical drama film, which caused irreversible damage to their relationship.

For those unaware, Gibson and the 35-year-old American screenwriter and film director confirmed their separation after 9 years of togetherness.

In a joint statement issued to PEOPLE magazine, the couple, who shares a son, Lars, 8, said, “Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible.”

The source revealed that Gibson and Ross have been living separately for a year; however, they will continue to co-parent their son.

Per the insider, “Mel became completely consumed by this project. It isn’t just work – it is now an obsession. He has been away constantly, mentally elsewhere even when he was home, and it created a distance that Rosalind couldn’t bridge.”

Back in 2014 when they first met, Ross was supporting his creative ambitions but the Mad Max star’s lack of attention to the family harmed their relationship.

At first, “she admired the scale of what he was trying to do. But over time, it felt relentless. The film dominated everything – their conversations, schedules, and his priorities. There was a sense that nothing else mattered, and that became unsustainable,” explained the source.

Ross “had her own career and goals, but Mel’s focus narrowed almost entirely to this single project. Living with that level of intensity became emotionally draining,” they claimed.

Before concluding, it is pertinent to mention that The Resurrection of the Christ, Gibson’s long-gestating sequel to The Passion of the Christ, will be released in 2027.
